Solar rebate: what you need to know

The Federal Government’s Solar Rebate (STC Program)

The Australian Government offers a financial incentive to make solar more affordable through the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES).

Under this program, when you install a solar power system under 100kW, you’re eligible to receive Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), often referred to as the “solar rebate.”

These STCs have a market value and act as an upfront discount on your installation cost, so you don’t have to wait years to see the savings.

Lock in your maximum rebate – rates decline each year until 2030

How it works

01

You install a solar system

Approved by the Clean Energy Council and installed by a licensed installer (like Summit + Shore)
02

You generate STCs

The number depends on your system size, location, and the year of installation
03

We apply the discount upfront

Summit + Shore takes care of the paperwork and simply deducts the rebate from your quote
Rebate rates decrease annually; lock in the maximum rebate by installing in 2025

Why the rebate reduces each year

The STC scheme is designed to phase down each year as solar becomes more affordable. On the first of January each year until 2030, the rebate reduces, which means the earlier you install, the bigger your benefit.
